He must always keep that copy with him and read it daily as long as he lives. That way he will learn to fear [and worship] the Lord his God by obeying (keeping foremost in his thoughts and actively doing) all the terms of these instructions and decrees.
This regular reading will prevent him from becoming proud and acting as if he is above his fellow citizens [by a false sense of self-importance and self-reliance]. It will also prevent him from turning away from these commands in the smallest way. And it will ensure that he and his descendants will reign for many generations in Israel.
~ Deuteronomy 17: 19 – 20 NLT, AMP ~
Hello fully accepted one, God’s beloved! Hello king! Excuse me for stating the obvious, in Christ, you are a king, and the guidelines are for you.
Guidelines for a King, which starts at verse 14, is a set of instructions God gives the Israelites regarding their future kings. The copy referred to is the scroll of instructions given at that time, but we can apply this to the broader context of the totality of the Word of God.
My highlights in these verses are:
- Keep a copy of the Word.
- Read it daily all the days of my life.
- Obeying involves keeping the Word at the forefront of my thoughts and actively doing it.
- Daily reading helps me obey God.
- Daily reading keeps me from becoming self-important and self-reliant.
- Daily reading keeps me from turning away from God.
- My daily reading and its fruits has benefits for the future generations in my bloodline.
What have been your key takeaways?
Nurturing as I am being nurtured,
Thank you for joining me and reading, I hope this has spurred you to explore the Scripture cited in this post further and grow in your knowledge of God.
There's so much I don't know -Â but this I do: God loves you, and extravagantly so. Growth is slow. That's okay. Be content with the revelation that comes gradually. Say, "My soul, never be offended by the Bible." And when you come to the hard, uncomfortable, unsettling parts, just echo, "My soul, never be offended by the Bible."
Little by little, you'll know more and more. More of the extravagant, unshakeable, relentless, and unstoppable love that Jesus lavishes upon you. And more will start to make sense.
On the other side of your choice, is a God who responds to your open heart.
